CH 101    The Most Ancient Church

Studies will commence with the beginnings of religion in the fertile crescent through the development of the Jewish Church.

CH 102    Mythology

An in-depth analysis of the mythology arising from the most ancient church and from other sources during the same time periods. 

CH 103    The Pre-Christian Church

An analysis of the rise and development of Judaism up to the Christian era.  

CH 104    The Early Christian Church

A history of the early Christian church from the beginning of the Christian era through the middle of the fourth century. 

CH 105    The Inquisition and Heresy

This course is a continuation of the history of the early Christian Church which examines the early heresies through the Inquisition period.   

CH 106    The Reformation

The reformation period following the inquisition up to the modern Church will be examined including the modern so-called heresies and division or break-up of the Roman Catholic Church. 

CH 201    Contemporary Christian Religions

This course attempts to enumerate the various sects and branches of the Christian Church and ascertain the differences among them. 

CH 201    Pre-Christian Mystery Religions

This course will examine the Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Syrian Mystery Religions to discover common elements and compare their approach with Christian theology and philosophy.  Prerequisites: CH 103 and 104.

CH 202    Christian Sects and Cults

The student will examine cults and sects within the Christian faith as opposed to those from without which attack the Christian Church. 

CH 203    History of Independent Catholicism

While the history of the Roman Catholic Church is fairly complete, even though written by the Roman Church itself, the history of the non-Roman Catholic Church is nebulous and difficult to ascertain.  This course is an attempt to bring together a variety of writings to ascertain that history. 

CH 204    Religious Orders and Christianity

The major religious orders within the Roman Catholic Church will be studied and their differences noted.  A comparison will be made between these orders and other Christian orders both in modern society and the Early Church.  

CH 205    Satanism and Anti-Christian Cults

An introduction to the philosophy and religion of Devil worshipers and cults opposed to the Christian religious practices and theology.

CH 301    The Masons and Religion

Freemasonry and its relationship to Christianity and earlier religions will be studied using a number of different approaches and sources. 

CH 302    The Rosicrucians and Religion

Rosicrucianism and its relationship to Christianity and earlier religions will be studied using a number of different approaches and sources.

CH 303    The Mystery Cults and Christianity

The influence of the earlier Mystery Cults on Christianity will be analyzed in depth. 

CH 304    Christian Gnosticism

Gnosticism within the Christian and Catholic Church will be studied using contemporary and ancient texts.   

CH 370    Independent Study in Religion

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail.  Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.

CH 380    Independent Study in Church History

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail.  Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.

CH 390    Thesis in Christian History

The candidate will write an original thesis on a topic chosen by the student and approved by the department.  Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of course work and permission of the department.  

CH 401    Yoga and Christianity

The common thread between the various forms of Yoga and Christianity will be compared with their differences. 

CH 402    Buddhism and Christianity

The common thread between the major sects of Buddhism and Christianity will be compared with their differences. 

CH 403    Hermetic Orders and Christianity

The Hermetic Orders will be reviewed and the similarities and differences between them and Christianity will be discussed.   

CH 501   Christian Orders

Christian Orders including a study of monastic life as a monk or nun will be reviewed and compared.  The purpose and mission of Christian Orders will be of paramount importance.

CH 501   History of the Minor Orders

The Minor Orders will be studied from the early church to the modern era with emphasis on the purpose and mission of each order.

CH 503   History of the Major Orders

The Major Orders of Deacon, Priest, Bishop, Archbishop and other Major Orders will be studied with emphasis on the purpose and function of each.

CH 570    Independent Study in Religion

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail.  Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.  

CH 580    Independent Study in Church History

The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to explore in detail.  Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.  

CH 590    Dissertation in Christian History

The candidate will write an original dissertation on a topic chosen by the student and approved by the department.  Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of course work and permission of the department.
