Question of GOD
An introductory course covering the historical evidence
of God through faith, logic,
the evidence of the senses and intuition.
REL 102 Divine
Revelation
The problem of ascertaining the difference between
divine revelation and the written word of mortal man is analyzed through
the study of scripture.
REL 103 Philosophy
of Religion
The philosophy of religion will be examined using a
number of current texts and crossing several different
disciplines. Emphasis will
be placed on Pythagoras, Plato
and other Greek philosophers during the first centuries BCE.
REL 104 Spiritual
Art and Music
The requirements for worship services will be studied on
the basis of the history and development of both music and art
within various religions.
REL 105 The
Spiritual World I
The spiritual world as a part of the physical world is
discussed versus the physical world as a part of the
spiritual world. The
differences between the physical, mental, emotional, psychic and
spiritual worlds is analyzed.
REL 106 The
Spiritual World II
The student will continue studies commenced in The
Spiritual World I and apply them to his or her everyday life
and profession.
REL 201 Doctrine
and Dogma
Doctrine and dogma are both defined from the
perspectives of eastern, western and Shamanistic religious
viewpoints and then analyzed in depth.
REL 202 Ritual
Western, eastern and Pagan ritualistic practices will be
examined and compared to determine both the similarities and
differences in spiritual practices.
REL 203 Ethics
I
A study of the standards of conduct and moral judgment
from the viewpoint of a number of philosophers, theologians and
religious movements.
REL 204 Ethics
II
A comparison of the standards of conduct and moral
judgment from the viewpoint of a number of philosophers as they
might relate to the three major religious movements within the
eastern, western and pagan traditions.
REL 301 The
Sacraments
A comprehensive examination of baptism, confirmation,
marriage, communion, confession, burial of the dead, healing
or unction and holy orders as they are practiced by a variety of
western, eastern and Pagan faiths.
REL 302 Exorcism,
Spirits and Ghosts
Disincarnate spirits and ghosts, demons and angels,
elementals and devas and the practice of removing these entities
from the human aura.
REL 303 Transmigration
and Reincarnation
The history and philosophy of soul transmigration and
reincarnation as it applies to both eastern and western religious
thought.
REL 304 Karma
The philosophical underpinnings of Karma and how it is
handled in both eastern and western theology and practices.
REL 305 The
Philosophy of Western Religions
The history and development of divergent spiritual
philosophies in Judaism, Christianity
and Islam as compared to Greek and European philosophies.
REL 306 The
Philosophy of Eastern Religions
The history and development of divergent spiritual
philosophies in Hindu and Buddhist
Yoga as compared with historical and concurrent Chinese philosophy.
REL 380 Introduction
to Thesis Writing
This course is required of all Master Degree Candidates
prior to choosing a Thesis
topic and all Doctoral Candidates who have not previously written a
thesis.
REL 390 Thesis
in Religious Studies
The candidate will write an original thesis on a topic
chosen by the student and approved by the department. Prerequisite: Satisfactory
completion of course work and permission of the department.
REL 401 Independent
Study in Religious Studies
The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to
explore in detail. Prerequisite:
Approval by the Department.
REL 402 Curriculum
Development in Religious Studies I
The student will develop a curriculum for teaching
introductory and intermediate courses in religious studies to
beginning and intermediate students.
REL 403 Eastern
and Western Philosophies I
A comparison of the religious philosophies underlying
eastern and western
religions and theologies.
REL 404 Eastern
and Western Philosophies II
A comparison of the religious practices of eastern and
western religions based on the underlying eastern and western
philosophies.
REL 501 Advanced
Independent Study in Religious Studies
The student is expected to pick a topic of interest to
explore in detail.
Prerequisite: Approval by the Department.
REL 502 Curriculum
Development in Religious Studies II
The student will develop a curriculum for teaching
advanced courses in religious studies to advanced students.
REL 580 Research
and Publication
A survey of research and
publishing techniques. Required of all Doctoral Candidates
prior to selecting a topic and writing their dissertation.
REL 590 Dissertation
The candidate will write an original dissertation on a
topic chosen by the student and approved by the department. Prerequisite: Satisfactory
completion of course work and permission of the department.
